Revision History
Known limitations
- The date format has to be in English. Non-English users will experience crashes because date calculations are dependent on English month names.
- The "Updated" marking on the Forces form can be confusing because certain holding boxes like "Hold" or "CHIN" are actually shared between the Allies and the Japanese player. There is only one "Updated" marking so if such a force is updated by one side the marking is also shown for the other side.
- When moving a unit to a hex (for instance an HQ unit), the "special" hexes corresponding to the holding boxes like "Hold" are not sorted the same way as forces. This is really a minor point, but it irritates me!
- Force FREE: When selecting one unit (say, a submarine) and then selecting another unit of the same type (say, another submarine), the location information is not updated at the same time. This can cause confusion even to me who already know about this limitation! The workaround is to always select something else before moving to the next unit.
The reason for this behaviour is that that no event is triggered when selecting a new record in a subform. If anybody have a solution to this problem, please write me!
- Submarine status for entering or leaving port (only used with our house rules) can only be managed in force FREE. This should of course be possible anywhere, but such is the situation right now.
- Sometimes Access will report a conflict with someting like: "Another user has updated the record...". I have always chosen "Overwrite", and I have not experienced any corruption of data.
Changes in version 2.4
- Fixed a bug that caused a crash when landing planes on some carriers in the modified strategic scenario.
- Fixed bug that prevented Holding Boxes from being printed.
- Corrected the size of some fields so that the entire text can be seen.
Version 2.2 and 2.3 were never publicly released.
Changes in version 2.1
- Removed bug that caused Allied Anti-Merchant Allocation to be reset to zero when no subs were placed in SSAL - even though sub replacement steps were assigned to anti-merchant work. At the same time a solution was found to an old problem with an uninitialised value in the anti-merchant sub replacement steps.
- Tab order was fixed in the Allied and Japanese Player forms.
- A bug causing a crash when tabbing from certain fields on the Allied and Japanese Players forms was fixed.
- The value for the Strategic Initiative Box must now be between 1 and 36. Other values could cause evaluation to halt.
Changes in version 2.01
- Removed bug that caused a halt when printing a task force (Access 97 only).
- Corrected definition that caused Homeland Resources not to be set to zero for new locations.
Changes in version 2.0
- Added support for task forces.
- Added support for settings specific for operations: Lighting conditions, operation player, advantage player, etc.
- Added support for activation status of units (Ready, Activated, Deactivated). This includes a button for activating or deactivating an entire force, and for the unit overviews it is possible to select only units with a specified activation status.
- Also added a button to deactivate all units in the game. Handy for ending an operation.
- Units outside forces or task forces are supported by a special force called FREE. When managing this force, it is possible to select a location for each unit individually. This is mainly intended for submarines.
- The holding boxes for each side no longer show units of the other side.
- A field called 'Objective' has been added to forces and task forces. This is intended for noting what the force or task force is supposed to do in the coming operation.
- Yet another bug that caused miscalculation of the allied strategic air replacements has been corrected.
- Numerous other errors and minor corrections like adding dates to printouts have been implemented. I have not even kept count of them. This is a major release, after all!
- Added a Nationalist Chinese 1E-L2 air unit to be used if the existing 1E-L1 receives a battle promotion - it actually happened in our game!
- Added extra forces and task forces so that each side have 120 forces and 20 task forces. Again, use is optional, and necessitates producing own counters for these forces.
- New overviews: There is an overview of all ports, one of all OSBs, another one of construction in progress, and one showing repairable ships in repair yards. To assist the players even more a possibility has been added to show only damaged installations. In this way, the players should never forget to repair a ship or an installation.
- Added "Unupdate" button on the Forces form to remove "Updated" status from a force.
- Removed the "Advance" button and built the Advance into the "Advance Month" function on the main form.
- Homeland Resources and Co-Prosperity Sphere Resources now have their original value shown too, so that it is easier to see when they are at full strength.
- Added two new scenarios:
- Central Pacific - Campaign Scenario nr. 7 "War in the Central Pacific" by James C. Gordon printed in Moves #94.
- Pacific War revised - For use with the Revised Order of Battle published by Christian Strachan and me (see Game Notes).
- All other scenarios were revised to reflect the new possibilities of PacWarDB.
- Added a large number of extra units to use with the Revised Order of Battle.
- Included support for recording when submarines leave and enter port - for use with the Revised Order of Battle.
- Fortifications no longer have a button called "Destroy". Instead they use hit points like every other unit. They are considered destroyed when at zero points. This has been done to accommodate house rules where fortifications can be repaired.
- Added support for extra reinforcement pools: The Japanese now also have reinforcements for the Indian National Army, the Burmese Army and the Thai Army. This is also for use with our Revised Order of Battle.
- Added Anchorage in hex 5361 and US Alaska HQ. Of course, use is optional.
- Added Medan in hex 4306, Djambi 3906, and Padang in 3904.
Changes in version 1.3
- The player printouts have been modified to incorporate the exact position of the Strategic Initiative Marker.
- More space has been allocated on the force printouts to accommodate texts like "Port interdicted".
- For the strategic scenario the Japanese ground replacements were calculated as 10% of the current resource level. We have re-evaluated the scenario instructions to take the Japanese Strategic Reserve rule into account so that for the months December 41 through June 42 the Japanese Player receives 10% of 100 points regardless of the resource level.
Changes in version 1.2
- Fixed bug that caused advancing units in Allied Mapedge Holding
Boxes to advance them right into the last holding box.
- Fixed bug that caused advancing Japanese engineer construction to
advanced Allied construction instead.
- Fixed bug that caused strategic air replacements to be available
one month too early.
- Fixed wrong title on Japanese Forces printout.
- Air units overview is now sorted.
- When adjusting the Command Points allocated to a Headquarters Unit
any force at the same location was marked as updated. This has been
removed.
- Locations were not sorted properly. This is fixed.
Changes in version 1.1
- The sum of ground unit steps in a force is now updated when ground
units are moved into or out of the force.
- A number of errors in the setup for the Pacific War strategic
scenario are corrected.
- A new holding area for Manchuria is added.
- Headquarters are now shown when listing locations.
- A new facility for printing the positions of all forces of a side is
added.
- A new facility for printing the positions of all counters that need
be put on the map is added.
- The preview printing state is no longer lost when returning to the
main form.
- Corrected a bug when showing locations that did not delete forces that
had moved from that location.
- The holding areas None and Sunk are no longer marked as updated when
units are moved to or from them (as long as you are not actually
managing those holding areas).
- Printouts now state when an installation is interdicted.
- The footer on most printouts has been changed to show the kind of
printout on each page.
- Demolition of installations is now shown on printouts, and
Co-Prosperity Sphere Resources now have an indication of the original
value before demolition. Partial rebuilding is possible.
- When merging forces, the force that is merged into the other force is
now set to location None because this proved to be the most likely
thing that the player would do anyway.
